    What is a CHW? A community health worker (CHW) is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of the community served. CHWs help build individual and community health knowledge and self-sufficiency by increasing access to health and social services and providing culturally-appropriate health education, social support and advocacy.

    988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Transition Begins July 16, 2022

    In 2020, 12.2 million adults seriously thought about suicide in the United States, 3.2 million made a plan, 1.2 million attempted suicides, and 46,000 deaths. If you need suicide or mental health-related crisis support or are worried about someone else, please call or text 1-800-273-8255 or visit the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s chat to connect with a trained crisis counselor. Tomorrow July 16, 2022, the U.S. will transition to using the 988-dialing code. 988 is Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. See the Figure below. 988 is a direct connection to compassionate, accessible care and support for anyone experiencing mental health-related distress. If you or someone needs crisis support, call or text 988. All patients receiving care at IPH are screened and referred for immediate care as indicated.     COVID-19 vaccination helps protect everyone six months and older from COVID-19 and its complications. Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and booster protects people from severe illness and death. CDC recommends COVID-19 vaccines for everyone six months and older. COVID-19 vaccine boosters restore protection that might have decreased over time after your COVID-19 primary series vaccination. CDC also recommends everyone ages five years and older get one booster after completing their COVID-19 vaccine primary series. See the Figure below.
